I could never write enough positive things about this house, the owner, the area... My family and I had a house fire in May of 2010 and our insurance rented us the Jolly Tar for the period of time while our home was being rebuilt. Our family consists of our five daughters and our 6 foster children, my fiance and I and our Saint Bernard Puppy. The owner Diane and members of her family were so caring, compassionate, considerate. They even had side walk chalk and other fun goodies for the kids. The Jolly house was someplace my kids ask to go back to. The opportunities for entertainment are endless in the area. The house is a perfect location for summer concert festivals in the park, various gold panning adventures and historical spots. There is great hiking, swimming, and just plain exploring. The house has is completely stocked with necessary cooking and living essentials. The character of the house and the play areas and living areas are unique and luxurious. Each room is indivially designed complete with a story behind it. We all highly recommend this home and this renter. She went above and beyond for our family and we will be occupants of the Jolly House for many visits to come.

Great Family Vacation Spot and Lots of Room for Everyone
The Jolly House is just what my family was looking for in a vacation rental. When we first arrived we felt very welcomed and comfortable. The house has lots of space and bedrooms. We had 10 adults and 7 children. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meal and enough seating for everyone. The back yard was huge; the kids ran around and played, rode bikes and put on shows at the stage. We all enjoyed many drinks and meals at the outdoor bar, the fire pit, and covered seating area. There were many things to enjoy within a half an hour. We went to the movie theater and to the Lake. We also enjoyed the town of Murphys, about 15 mins away. My family looks forward to trip back next year to the Jolly House, where we had a Jolly good time!

30th Birthday Party
I threw a friend's thirtieth birthday party here, and it was great. The property is so unique and has a ton of character. There was plenty of room for everyone, and the back yard was perfect for hanging out and having a blast. If you're planning on cooking for a huge group, just write to make sure you have any equipment you might need. All questions were very promptly answered, and it was very easy getting all the info we needed. I highly recommend the Jolly Tar.

Fabulous Gold Country Vacation
This vacation was fantastic. Centrally located to all sorts of different activities, the Jolly House is a great place to stay when visiting the gold country area. The house is perfect for a small family and can also accomodate large groups with a kitchen stocked full of cookware for groups big and small and beds/bedrooms galore. I loved the art work and the cool little specialty items found throughout the house. There is also a huge backyard with a stage area and dress up clothes that kept the kids entertained for hours. We were able to get great videos that we will enjoy for a long time to come.
The Jolly Hosue is near Ironstone Vineyards where they have a summer concert series, and Frogtown where they have all kinds of events.
This charming huge house was first built by the Jolly Tar Mine's owner era 1880 during the Goldrush and Wild West times. It was added onto in the 1950's and then again in the 1980s. It was updated in 2009-2010. The house is packed full of interesting Antiques, Art, and unusual things.
If you are looking for a prefect mint condition vacation rental than this is not the place for you. The Jolly Tar Mine House is an old house with imperfections. Its a great place to relax, have fun, celebrate a wedding, anniversary, birthday party, church retreat, large family vacation and more. People get happy just being in the house, its a very special place.
Vacation rentals like this are an inexpensive way to have a vacation since you can cook your own food, split the cost amongst several people and have all the comforts of a large family home at your disposal.
How can I send the rental agreement or make Payments?
With our initial email correspondance, we send you a rental agreement. Before officially booking your dates, we require you to send us your completed rental agreement which can be emailed, faxed or mailed.
We have several ways to pay: we can request money through PayPal, we can schedule a phone call to pay via credit card, or you may mail checks payable to Diane Morrow, PO Box 416, Altaville, CA 95221.
Per the rental agreement, extra cleaning fees is $100/hr. What kind of cleaning would fall under this?
This is reserved in case someone trashes the place. So far that has not happened, and we have not had to charge anyone anything extra. If we had to charge, it would be our exact cost.
Have you had any incidents of critters such as snakes on the property?
We have had no snake problems in the last 20 years. Usually snakes stay out of town area, and we keep everything mowed down to help facilitate that. We do have a playground in the back yard for the kids, and it is easy to supervise them from the house.
How late can we pick up the keys?
The house has a coded entry – once you pay, before your check-in we will send you the punch key code for the front door.
